Open Educational Resources

This event is about getting access to educational resources on the web.  We have two speakers, Catherine Bruen from the National Digital Learning Repository in Ireland and Cathy Swift from the MERLOT collection of peer reveiwed online materials.

"Open Educational Resources", Catherine Bruen, NDLR, Cathy Swift, Merlot

Catherine Bruen: is currently working as the manager for the National Digital Learning Repository Service. Before that she worked as a Senior Instructional Designer and eLearning Project Manager for the Centre for Learning Technology (CAPSL) at Trinity College. Her research interests include technology enhanced learning, Communities of Practice, Open educational resources, Social learning, cloud computing for education, adaptive hypermedia, personalised learning and simulations based learning. She has lectured part time for postgraduate programmes in Computer Science and Education. She has collaborated with colleagues in Ireland and the UK on a number of publications in the area of technology enhanced learning, open educational resources, Reusable learning resources (RLRs), Academic Practice and Adaptive Hypermedia for ILTA, Ed-Media, AH, IUISC and ISKS. Catherine is the deputy chair of the Irish Learning Technology Association for ILTA.

Dr. Cathy O, Swift is the Director of Academic Partner Services at MERLOT, (which is a peer reviewed collection of online learning resources.) She received a B.S. in Marketing at Penn State, MBA at Indiana University, and Ph.D. at University of North Texas.  She has published over 30 journal articles and numerous proceedings.  Until four years ago, she was a Professor of Marketing at Georgia Southern University and received the Outstanding Georgia WebMBA Faculty Award, College of Business Administration Award for Sustained Excellence, College of Business Administration Professor of the Year Award, University Award for Teaching Excellence, and COBA Award for Teaching Excellence.  She has worked part time on MERLOT since 1999 as Editor of the Business discipline as well as Manager of the Editorial Boards.  She started working full time on the MERLOT project in June 2006.  Her research interests are in the areas of online teaching, teaching pedagogy and international business.  She will be speaking about MERLOT.
